With its running, cycling, and swimming sensors, the TomTom Multi-Sport is a powerful GPS watch for cross-training athletes.
Expanding on the functionality of the TomTom Runner, the Multi-Sport includes a dedicated bike mount and supports an optional speed and cadence sensor to easily view and track bike rides.

The built-in accelerometer measures swimming distance and speed, and counts strokes and laps.
The Multi-Sport also has the same sleek and easy-to-use design of the Runner with one-button operation and a high-resolution screen. And the wrist band can be swapped out for more stylish choices.
Like the Runner, the Multi-Sport offers zone-based training, where you are signaled – either audibly or with vibration alerts – when you deviate from a pre-set heart rate or pace. And the Race function allows you to compete against prior workouts where the watch tells you how far ahead or behind you are compared to past workouts.
The Multi-Sport tracks indoor treadmill runs using a built-in accelerometer rather than a foot pod — a nice feature that eliminates the need to purchase and wear a separate accessory. One version of the Multi-Sport also comes with an altimeter for accurate elevation readings.
Similar to the Runner, the main fault of this watch lies in its lack of interval and advanced workouts. Experienced athletes will miss the ability to program and execute workouts on their watch. It’s also missing Multi-Sport, a quick-release mount, and custom bike settings making sport transitions more cumbersome for triathletes.
But as a cross-training GPS watch, this is one of the stronger models on the market. It can easily support running, cycling, and swimming — and would make a good hiking watch as well.
- Strong features to track running, cycling, and swimming both indoors and outdoors
- Simple and sleek design with an easy-to-read, high resolution screen
- Customizable and stylish interchangeable watch bands
- Features that include racing against prior workouts as well as zone and pace training
- Lacks interval and advanced workout capability
- Doesn’t have Multi-Sport and other triathlete features
Runners
With the same simple, easy-to-use, yet feature-rich attributes of the TomTom Runner, the Multi-Sport would make a great watch for runners of all skill levels, especially those that incorporate a lot of cross-training into their workouts.
Cyclists
The Multi-Sport supports a bike speed and cadence sensor and comes with a dedicated bike mount, making it suitable for intermediate and casual cyclists. But it’s missing power meter compatibility that is available with other bike-centric GPS watches.
Swimmers
The Multi-Sport’s swim features – measuring distance, counting laps and strokes, and detecting swimming efficiency – make this a powerful watch for experienced swimmers.
Hikers
Hikers who purchase the Multi-Sport model with the altimeter will appreciate accurately measured elevation readings.
